Holidaymakers warned of Spanish EHIC Card Scheme
Holidaymakers are being warned to take care if they need hospital care in Spain as many are finding themselves at hospitals which are refusing to accept the European Health Insurance Card that provides free or state equivalent healthcare in EU countries.
The Telegraph is reporting that tour operators, taxi drivers and even police could be receiving backhand payments to direct tourists to cash-strapped hospitals. Tourists are presenting their EHIC, only for it to be refused and are then presented with a substantial bill.

Pet Insurance Most Likely to Be Claimed
A recent survey by Which has revealed that people are more likely to claim on pet insurance than on their car, home, or travel insurance.
The publication surveyed members who had made insurance claims in the past two years. Four in ten pet insurance owners had made a claim in that period, the highest proportion of all the general insurance categories.
Pet insurance was followed by car insurance (20%), home insurance (18%) and travel insurance (15%).
Pet illness was the most common reason to make a claim, with 70% of pet insurance claims accounting for this, followed by accident and injury (18%).

Some Spanish Hospitals Refusing to Accept European Health Insurance Card, Report says
A recent report by the International Travel Insurance Journal has investigated allegations that some hospitals in Spain are refusing to take the European Health Insurance Card.
The EHIC is designed to entitle British holidaymakers to state healthcare at a reduced cost or sometimes for free in countries that are part of the European Economic Area Countries.
In Spain, public hospitals offer treatment free of charge and Spanish public hospitals are obliged to accept the EHIC but there are claims that some holidaymakers were forced to provide travel insurance or credit card details to cover medical costs after their admission.

One in Four Brits Travel Without Insurance
A new survey by ABTA has revealed that one in four Brits are travelling uninsured, with a third of people questioned saying it was too expensive or they were confused about what they were covered for.
ABTA found that 24% of travellers do not buy travel insurance, up from 20% last year. Men and people aged 18-24 were the least likely to buy insurance, with only 52% of young travellers thought to be covered when they travelled.
Londoners and those in the East of England and Northern Ireland are also less likely than average to purchase a policy.

Brits Not Properly Insured When They Travel
Only one in five Brits are protected by the correct level of travel insurance when they are holidaying, according to new research from MoneySupermarket.com. Statistics show that travelling Brits average value of suitcase contents, including both hand and hold luggage, is £1440 per person.

UK Weather Driving Brits Abroad
The number of Britons seeking hot and sunny weather abroad has increased again this year, according to high-street travel company Thomson. It comes as no surprise after the severe flooding across the country and the declaration that April to June was the wettest on record to date.
Thomson has reported a 20% increase in holiday searches online compared to the same period last year, with popular destinations including Spain and Greece.
